LSUIC Chronicle: Key Highlights from Our First Edition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Liberian Student Union in China (LSUIC) has officially released its first newsletter, chronicling a period of dynamic change and ambitious new beginnings under a new leadership. The “Nanjing Renaissance” Conference has set the stage for a transformative year focused on digital innovation, structural expansion, and strengthened advocacy.
Here are the top headlines from the LSUIC Chronicle:
1. A New Leadership Era Dawns in Nanjing
LSUIC successfully convened its Annual General Conference, ushering in a new National Executive Committee (NEC) for the 2025-2026 term. The conference, themed ‘Nanjing Renaissance,’ elected Hon. Olano Teah Bloh as National President. He is joined by a team including Hon. Ruphine M. Harmon (National Vice President), Hon. C. Nathaniel Willie II (National Secretary General), Hon. Noah D. Mason (National Financial Secretary), and Hon. Jenneh Bonah (National Treasurer).
2. President Bloh’s Vision: “Leadership to the People” & A Digital Future
In his inaugural address, President Bloh outlined a vision rooted in service, integrity, and student-focused governance. A cornerstone of this vision is the “Digital LSUIC” initiative, which includes the launch of a new official website (www.lsuic.org) featuring online membership registration and digital tools to enhance connectivity and transparency across all union operations.
3. Smooth Transition with Official Turnover of Assets
The new NEC conducted a comprehensive briefing and a formal handover of assets from the previous administration. This included a financial turnover of ¥23,606.57 RMB and $2,700 USD, along with access to other digital platforms (Zoom, Yahoo, Gmail, Facebook), the union’s database, and some official documents.
4. Strengthening Ties with the Liberian Embassy
The new leadership has prioritized and already made strides in enhancing relations with the Liberian Embassy near Beijing. In a significant early success, Vice President Harmon collaborated with the Embassy to resolve T-Visa renewal challenges for over 20 students, demonstrating LSUIC’s proactive approach to student welfare and diplomatic engagement.
5. Structural Expansion: New Appointments Nationwide
To decentralize leadership and ensure effective representation, the National President has appointed 16 Provincial Coordinators and 14 City Presidents to join the five elected city presidents and one provincial coordinator across China. This expanded network is designed to improve communication, foster unity, and advance the union’s agenda at the local level.
6. Secretariat Drives Rebranding and Digital Modernization
The Secretariat, under Hon. Willie II, has launched a comprehensive rebranding initiative. This includes redesigning official materials and developing a custom National Workspace on ClickUp to unify communication, task management, and real-time performance tracking for all union branches and committees.
7. Council of Coordinators Elects New Leadership
The legislative arm of LSUIC, the Council of Coordinators (CoC), held its first sitting and elected its new leadership: Hon. Tarloh Gheh Chea (Senior Coordinator), Hon. Julieteh Agatha Quaye (Deputy Senior Coordinator), and Hon. Andrew Nathan Thompson (Coordinating Secretary). The CoC reaffirmed its role in holding the NEC accountable and shaping student-centered policies.
8. NEC to Appoint Seven Committees for Effective Governance
The NEC announced plans to appoint seven specialized committees—including Audit, Welfare, and Constitution Review—to address critical operational areas. This structured approach aims to enhance efficiency, inclusivity, and targeted problem-solving across the union.
